What will happen to the trees and memorial benches around the lake and the wildlife in the lake?

We recognise the importance of green, spaces, trees and the impact of this on our environment for patients and staff and will minimise the loss of any green areas as far as possible and seek to reinstate those unavoidably lost once the build is complete.

We have conducted an extensive survey of the site and wherever possible we have protected the established trees and green areas as far as practicable. We located two trees that were identified with memorial plaques. We understand that moving these may upset some but these have been replanted in the area next to the wishing well, alongside the lake.

All of the memorial benches have been moved to safe storage to prevent any potential damage to them as a result of the construction; these will be re-instated around the lake when construction ends.

We appreciate that many staff members, patients and visitors like to sit around the lake during lunch times and breaks and have raised questions about the impact the build may have on the wildlife in our lake.

Please be assured that we are trying to minimise the impact on our wildlife as best as physically possible while construction takes place; we do not envisage work impacting the lake and its immediate surroundings, this in turn shouldn’t cause any disruption to the current wildlife.
