Medical Workforce

Welcome to the Medical Workforce Department. We are based at Woodland House in Cardiff and provide specialist expertise relating to the recruitment and employment of doctors and dentists employed throughout the Health Board.

The department actively participates in the development of policies and procedures both within the Health Board and on an All Wales basis where they impact on the medical and dental staff group.  We also provide advice and work in collaboration with colleagues in the Workforce & Organisational Development regarding human resources issues connected with doctors and dentists.

The department also has an active role in inputting and updating accurate information into the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) for medical and dental staff which interfaces with the Payroll Department in generating pay records for circa 1,500 staff.  For what is a highly mobile workforce, considerable effort is invested with payroll colleagues to ensure payments are accurate and timely as per contracts of employment and as junior doctors rotate around various specialties within and outwith the Health Board.  Significant time and resource is also invested in maintaining accurate workforce information in order to respond to frequent data requests and there is regular audit / review of medical and dental staff data - fixed-term contracts, vacancy data, limited-term visas, summary job plan data, interface with the HEIW (Health Education and Improvement Wales) ‘Intrepid’ data systems etc.

In addition to this, the Medical Workforce Department’s work is focussed on these main areas:

Recruitment & Selection
New Deal / European Working Time Directive (EWTD) monitoring and Rota building
Medical Appraisal & Revalidation

eJob Planning - eSystems
